A rare Victorian Palais Royal leather and brass concertina travel case. This superb case has a leather body with a leather knotted design handle and is lined in the most striking blue moire silk (or watered silk) fabric. This delightful case is from the prestigious Smal L. Dujat house at the Palais Royal in Paris supplier of leather goods to the Imperial family. Research suggests that it may have been a travel case for letters, or handkerchiefs or perhaps a travelling vanity case. It is marked with the L.Dujat mark on the inside of the case.
The leather is worn and showing signs of age with wear, marks and some wrinkles in the leather on the top of the case. The bottom also has a mark and a compressed/missing area. The moire silk is stained in places. Please see the photographs for further detail. The L. Dujat is bright and visible with only slight loss to a couple of the letters.
