A lovely Gladstone (or Doctors bag) possibly French from circa 1900-1910. This super bag consists of a textured leather body (made to look like snake or lizard skin) with metal hardware. There is a lock opening on the top of the bag (sadly there is no key) and this is depressed to open the bag and there is a little leather pull tag to ensure smooth and fast opening. It is presented on a solid and fairly rigid frame and sits on five sturdy metal feet. Inside the bag is lined with canvas and has two pockets. On one side of the frame is the residue of a sticker with the number 18 showing. The handle adds 7 cm to the height.
Dimensions are approximate.
The bag is in good condition. There are numerous scuffs and surface scratches to the leather body. Inside is very grubby with numerous marks and rust spots. However, this is a very sturdy bag and structurally very sound despite its 100+ years. The clasp closes with a firm click. The hardware is showing signs of age.
